Google. A company that started out with a search engine and has grown into a mutli-faceted technological empire.  They are known for being one of the best companies to work for in the U.S. and their culture of “fun” is reflected in everything from the workplace to the logo.google 2015

Speaking of the logo, unless you live under a rock, you know that Google has recently changed theirs.  Discarding the old classic serif font in lieu of a new fresh and simpler design they call “product sans.”  Google isn’t the only tech company to rebrand and change up their logo over the last year.  Big name companies like Lenovo, Stubhub, and Facebook have upgraded their look as well.  So why is that people are so upset about Google?

People don’t like change. Any reasoning I could list for people disagreeing with the update falls under this umbrella.  Google has become a part of our everyday lives people have become comfortable with its current appearance.

This isGoogle over the yearsn’t the first time Google has changed their logo. They have actually done so 6 times since Larry Page and Sergy Brin founded the company in the 1990s.  According to Dennis Hawng, Webmaster Manager, the practice of changing up the logo was controversial  from the very beginning.  Anytime change is involved there will be a list of people who will tell you why it’s a bad idea. But, that hasn’t stopped Google before and it won’t stop them now.

Personally, I think the change was a smart move on Google’s part. From a visual perspective I think it is more appealing and I like that they went with a simpler more modern look. From a marketing and branding perspective, Google is growing as a company and is constantly taking on new projects.  Their look and logo should evolve with them as it has done in the past.

In the end people, no one is going to boycott Google just because they don’t like the new logo. People can criticize all they want (which is actually creating more publicity for the company) but as long as we keep using their services, Google wins.

Did You KnowThe ‘e’ at the end of the “Google” logo has always been slightly tilted to represent the company’s sometimes off-kilter thinking.
